JLG sponsors girls engineering class at HCC

JLG Industries Inc., recently sponsored a weeklong engineering course at Hagerstown Community College for girls entering grades six through eight. With a gift of $3,450, JLG covered the tuition for the 13 girls who applied for and participated in the class, titled “Girls Exploring Engineering.”

During the week, the girls were introduced to elements of civil, mechanical, electrical and environmental engineering.

They participated in hands-on projects designed by their instructor, Sydney Garwood, and heard from expert guest speakers during a field trip to JLG.

Engineers and representatives from JLG who worked with the class during the field trip are Kowlini Inampudi, Gina Cucco, Brianna Williams and Kristine Baisa.

“Girls Exploring Engineering” is offered each summer as part of HCC’s College for Kids program.
