Looking for something to do? Springfield's Cherry Blossom Festival is TODAY

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A sure sign of spring, the annual Cherry Blossom Kite and Piñata Festival is set for Saturday at Nathaneal Green Park.

The Springfield Sister Cities Association hosts festival each year. The park is at 2400 S. Scenic Ave. in Springfield.

The festival highlights the relationship with Springfield's two Sister Cities - Isesaki, Japan and Tlaquepaque, Mexico.

Admission is free.  But you can buy children's kit construction kits for $4.  Kids and adults are invited to fly kites in the park as well as take part in kite building and decorating, origami, piñatas and other Japanese and Mexican crafts and games at the Springfield-Greene County Botanical Center. The Kizuna Japan American Friendship Club will lead interactive folk dancing.

The festival also marks the season opening of the Mizumoto Japanese Stroll Garden, also located in Nathanael Greene/Close Memorial Park. Admission is free the day of the festival. (Regular admission is $3)
